Indicative Land Type Report
What is an indicative land type report?
The report shows the current version of Grazing Land Management (GLM) land type mapping (updated February 2019) and the approximate area of each land type with the selected area. Land types are areas of grazing land with similar soil, vegetation and capacity to produce useful feed. For further information on GLM land types, go to www.futurebeef.com.au .
What is included in the report?
The purpose of the Indicative Land Type report is to show the location, size and proportion of land types within a selected Lot (or Lots) on Plan. This report provides the following information:
- a map showing land type and Lot on Plan boundaries.
- a summary of dominant land types and estimated area of land types within the selected Lot or Lots on Plan.
- a GeoPDF file showing georeferenced data that relates an image from the PDF report to coordinates on a map - allowing the user to have some limited mapping functions such as turning map layers on and off. The GeoPDF for this report can be used in applications such as Avenza maps or Adobe Acrobat.

The Indicative Land Type report shows the current version of GLM land types in Queensland for a selected Lot on Plan or adjoining Lots on Plan including the approximate area and proportion of each land type within a selected area.

The GLM land type data (shapefile format) was originally developed by Department of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRM) based on regional ecosystems mapping and soil information. The data is on the Spatial Information Resource (SIR) database and has been updated by the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) in conjunction with the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) and the DNRM. The land type map is generated from a GIS shapefile which is developed based on regional ecosystems mapping and GLM information (https://futurebeef.com.au/resources/land-types-of-queensland/).
If the land types shown on the report appear to be incorrect, there are a number of options to consider:
- Is there a complete mismatch of one or more land types? Report the land type for checking at longpaddock@qld.gov.au
- Use the MyFORAGE online mapping tool to change incorrect land types on your holdings. Note: all polygons of that land type on the property of interest will be changed to the land type of choice. It is not possible to pick just one polygon.
- Is there a mixture of dominant and sub-dominant land types within polygon areas? In which case, only one land type can be chosen to represent the polygon for mapping in MyFORAGE and be modelled/displayed on the reports
